Zacharon Pharmaceuticals

Friques spent the morning visiting Zacharon Pharmaceuticals, located on the shore of La Jolla Cove.

Friques were welcomed at the door of Zacharon Pharmaceuticals by Brett Crawford, Ph.D., Director of Research and Development. Here Dr. Crawford displays plates in which cells are grown. The company targets glycans on the cell surface repsonsible for disease states.

"Let's all sit together," Crawford told the friques in a laid back manner. "I think we've all had enough lectures, let's have a talk."

"Zacharon was started by a couple of old college buddies that decided to get together one day for a beer. "

Crawford leads the friques on a tour of the Zacharon facility. Along the way he talked of the challenges of drug development. "Everything you can imagine to generate a false positive, multiply that number by ten."

Friques assemble in front of the sign at the gates of Invitrogen located in Carlsbad. Inside the facilities friques donned lab coats and goggles before being led on a tour. Invitrogen is the maker of multiple products for life science research.
